Well, you elect a street-level douche-bag and look what you get......Mr. Peace-Prize......

American Logistics: Possible Ukrainian Scenarios.

How are we going to support an effort in the Ukraine?
First off our supply lines could not be longer. Long supply lines are full of risk. The enemy (The Russians ostensibly) will take every opportunity to curtail American supplies reaching the Ukrainians or any force fighting along side them. We would need bases forward. What EU ("European") country in Western or Central Europe will allow US forces to be staged there as US forces prepare to attack Russia or defend the Ukraine? This would open those host countries up to attack. To attack the enemies supplies and bases is a completely legitimate act according to the Laws of War. Such an attack would almost certainly drag that host country into the fray. When things start to go wrong will the US guarantee the host countries sovereignty in the face of Russian retaliation? No, really now. How the fuck will the United States prevent the Russians from launching a perfectly legitimate attack upon a US forward base located in Poland or Estonia or Hungary? This all really sounds like the ingredients to World War Three.

Where is the shipping and who will man them even if they were there?
Our merchant fleet is pathetic. Only MSC (Military Sealift Command) is there to carry meager supplies. Any enemy with a brain and a submarine fleet will do all in his power to sink those ships. What then? Contract with the Chinese to haul our supplies? During Gulf War One numerous ships in the RRF (Ready Reserve Fleet) were far FAR from ready. Some had to be towed, they could not make it. Contract ships lost their nerve the closer they got to Kuwait and some refused to proceed.

We're all connected: Globalization is far more Globalized than any may realize....and has been so for much longer than any of us realize.
Many EU countries receive power oil natural gas and even electricity from Russia. These EU countries may consider (Even still) the Russians to backward boorish brutes at best and bloodthirsty murdering Cossacks at worst. But when some dude in the Hague flips his light switch he wants light to come from the bulb. at that moment he's not thinking "now were exactly does this power come from?" Honestly it's all from the "grid". American gasoline from the pump down the street from here, now where exactly did that particular batch of gas-o-line come from? Our gas does not necessarily come from US refineries along US pipelines from US ships from US companies and US labs and even from US wells. All the oil that ends up in the market.
